Volunteer Mentors |
|
|
Abbotsford Restorative Justice is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to become mentors for youth going through a Restorative Justice process. Mentors are matched with youth ages 12- 25 who are referred by the Police or the School District.
Mentors work with youth spending time together to help build a positive adult relationship, to help provide emotional support, to help them through their mediation, and to help them fulfill their restitution agreements.
If you are:
• 19 years +
• willing to commit to at least 6 hours a month for one year in activities with a mentee
• willing to commit to at least 2 hours a month for training or support meetings
• Able to pass and maintain an enhanced security clearance
• Able to demonstrate the capacity to be consistent and positive adult role models that endorse pro-social values and a drug free lifestyle
• Interested in helping make a difference in a young person’s life

In collaboration with CRA, we're hosting a free tax preparation service for eligible Abbotsford residents 55+, with modest income and simple tax returns. Accordingly, we're seeking volunteers to screen, prepare and complete basic income tax returns using Canada Revenue Agency supplied computer software and guidelines. Sessions are 1 - 2 times a week, typically one hour sessions.

Reading Buddy |

Adults or students age 15 years and older are needed to work with children in grades 1 - 4. The children would have been identified by their classroom teachers as needing extra reading time. The Reading Buddies program is an opportunity to foster the love of reading in one-on-one sessions. The sessions are once a week for 45 minutes, at either the Clearbrook or Abbotsford libraries. The program runs from October to April each year.

Special events volunteers help in all kinds of ways, from assisting with event set-up and take-down, greeting visitors, leading games and running crafts with kids, event photography and more! Helping with special events is a fantastic way to introduce yourself to the Site and to start to learn about Abbotsford’s past. Please note: special events occur irregularly throughout the year. Gallery Attendant |

Help us greet people to the site and welcome people into the Heritage Gallery! Gallery Attendants play a crucial role in explaining the history of the Site and the exhibits to visitors, keeping track of attendance, and monitoring the Heritage Gallery. Gallery Attendants also assist with the running of the site’s gift shop. Volunteers hoping to work this position must be willing to process cash payments and work with computers/technology. PLEASE NOTE: Gallery Attendant positions will not start until the end of September/beginning of October. |

Our docents and site interpreters are a crucial part of the Trethewey House Heritage team! Docents provide tours of Trethewey House, actively helping to interpret the House and the Heritage Site while sharing stories about the artifacts and people of Abbotsford. Docents and site interpreters work with and monitor groups and visitors of all ages while also ensuring the security and safety of artifacts and exhibits. |
