Center for Independence (CFI) works to promote community solutions and empower people with disabilities to live independently. CFI services include personal and system advocacy, information and referrals, peer counseling, support groups for seniors, the blind and those with low vision, classes and education, job readiness skills, housing location assistance, benefits counseling, help navigating the Social Security Disability application process, nursing home transition, recreation, adaptive technology, and independent and daily living skills. All services are free and available to people of all disabilities.
CFI's service territory includes twelve counties across the Western Slope. The focus for the 2013-14 Fiscal Year is to grow outreach to the rural areas within our catchment area; grow Satellite West, CFI's southern regional office; launch CFI's Satellite East office, located at the Third Street Center in Carbondale, and grow the number of peer support groups in these un or under-served communities.
