Good Samaritan of the Ozarks

Genesis, our domestic violence shelter, provides a 24-hour hotline, safe shelter, resources and support for battered women and children. The shelter comfortably houses 40-45 people and offers individual and group counseling, training, crisis intervention, case management, education, and transportation to survivors. Services are also available to non-resident victims of abuse. Our emergency resources programs provide government commodities, senior food boxes, emergency food and clothing, financial relief, holiday food baskets, and Christmas presents for low-income children. Our thrift stores generate revenue from the sale of donated items to support all of our programs. Unusable paper, metal, belts, shoes, hats, purses and clothing are recycled so nothing goes to waste. Our thrift stores also house inventory for clients who request clothing and household goods from our emergency resources and Genesis' re-start program.

Pulaski County Salvation Army Service Extension Unit

The Pulaski County Service Unit is a volunteer committee of local citizens and business and professional people who represent the Salvation Army in communities throughout Pulaski County. These local citizens and leaders in the community join together to provide assistance and support to those in need throughout the year. Our local service unit sponsors a Tree of Lights Campaign once a year between Thanksgiving and Christmas to raise money with which to support programs that run year round. Funds raised during this campaign, which is manned by unpaid volunteer bell ringers, provides the operating capital for the Pulaski County Service Unit to disperse to people unable to find help through other means. This includes welfare and health assistance. Additionally, our local unit works in concert with the Good Samaritan Resource Center to provide food baskets to needy families during the Christmas holidays, and provides a care package to each resident in all county nursing homes. The success of your service unit is readily apparent to those people in need we have helped financially and spiritually, as well as by the many volunteers who generously donate time and money in support of The Salvation Army programs in Pulaski County.
