Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute

Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute provides evidence-based early literacy programs that foster kindergarten reading readiness and long-term academic achievement for 1,800 children in 10 communities from Aspen to Parachute. Programs provide: 1) The regular rotation of four children's books to the homes of 1,800 children. Books are kept for a week, returned and replaced with four more on an ongoing basis throughout the school year; 2) Parent education sessions to develop the knowledge and skills required for families to build early literacy aptitude at home; 3) Outreach to identify and provide early literacy support to isolated, high-risk children who do not attend preschools; and 4) Library introduction program that connects families to community resources and reinforces the importance of a literacy-rich home environment.
