CAAFA was founded 20 years ago by community members who realized that local victims of domestic violence and their children were living in their cars and out in the desert because they had nowhere else to go. CAAFA has grown substantially since then; we now serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence from eastern Maricopa County and all of Pinal County. Our service area, which is larger than the state of Connecticut, is mostly rural and largely lacking in community resources. We reach as many domestic and sexual violence survivors as possible through our 16-bed emergency shelter, Outreach Office, office hours at partner agencies, and direct mobile services provided within the community. We offer domestic and sexual violence survivors personal advocacy, case management, legal advocacy, support groups, one-on-one empowerment sessions with a trained counselor, referrals to community-based resources, nutritional support through food boxes, and more. CAAFA also conducts domestic and sexual violence awareness and education activities throughout our service area. CAAFA specializes in providing individualized, personal, inclusive, low-barrier support and services for both domestic and sexual violence survivors. Also, as our name suggests, we are known for building strong partnerships throughout our community with agencies that, together, provide a full continuum of care to our participant population.
