In a world where our social fabric has frayed--children raised by only one parent or neither, sinking graduation rates, rampant drug addiction, and decaying values --the need has never been more urgent for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Mentoring is the single most effective way to positively impact the life of a child. Research tells us that compared to all other youth their age, boys and girls matched with a Big Brother Big Sister or Family Match are, on average, 40% less likely to get arrested.
In addition, compared to their peers, matched youth are:
-46% less likely to start using drugs
-27% less likely go start drinking
-33% less likely to skip a day of school
Over the last year, referrals from teachers, counselors, youth workers, parents and law enforcement officials have grown to fifty children a month. Today, there are hundreds of children in every school and every community throughout Yavapai County and Sedona who are not yet matched with a "Big" and are on our waiting list. One of them may be waiting for you!
Our Mission
Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is to enhance the lives of children through quality mentoring relationships. Many children grow up without the time, attention and direction they need from caring adults. Through a private, non-profit organization, screened volunteers act as friends, mentors and role models to school-aged children who are predominately from single-parent homes. These relationships are supported by a professional staff.
