Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert

We help youth of all backgrounds throughout the Coachella Valley reach their potential through one-to-one mentoring relationships. We offer two core programs: Community-based and Site-based mentoring. Matches in the Community-based program participate in activities throughout the area such as going to ballgames, the park, movies and museums. Volunteers in the Site-based programs meet their Little at a specific site located in either La Quinta, Desert Hot Springs, Indio and Coachella. In both programs, the one-to-one matches spend between 4 to 8 hours per month together in their mentoring relationship. Volunteers are screened and once accepted, are matched to a youth according to preferences like age, geographic proximity and hobbies and interests. On going support by professionally-trained staff is provided for the duration of the match.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley

Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley is a member chapter of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, serving thousands of youth throughout the Coachella Valley with clubhouses in Desert Hot Springs, La Quinta, Indio, Coachella and Mecca. The organization’s after school and summer programs, activities, guidance and mentorship play a critical part in providing the valley’s young people, particularly those in need with the tools to build successful, satisfying and significant lives.

Coachella Valley Rescue Mission

Since 1971, Coachella Valley Rescue Mission has been an oasis, a place of refuge for the homeless and needy in our valley. We are a safe haven, a place of rest for the weary and a place where daily physical and spiritual needs may be met. Over the years the mission has continued to meet the ever growing needs of individuals, who for a variety of reasons have found themselves without the basic necessities of life. A dedicated staff and volunteers serve more than 300,000 hot meals annually and provide shelter to thousands of men and women with children. Food, clothing, and showers are also provided for those who do not shelter with us.

Family YMCA of the Desert

The Family YMCA of the Desert is the largest provider of licensed childcare in the valley, with facilities from Palm Springs to Mecca. We began services in 1982 and today we serve over 3,500 kids and families each day at forty two sites, with many opportunities in youth and family programming. The primary focus of the Family YMCA is to reinforce caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while allowing kids to develop social skills, confidence, leadership, and fitness. Programming at the Y includes after-school care, computer math tutoring, basketball and flag football, sports and fitness, Youth and Government Program, karate, swimming, and Y Rookies Sports Leagues. More than one fourth of the children participating in the Y programs receive financial assistance, making community support a vital element in the ability to offer help to kids and their families. Eight years ago, special partnerships between the Family YMCA of the Desert and various local elementary and middle schools within all three valley school districts were launched to provide free, on-site after school care as part of the state of California's recently enacted Proposition 49 / After School Education and Safety (ASES) Act. Today, these efforts continue with program growth in the Palm Springs Unified School District to all 21 school sites. We are proud to mention our collaborations with local community organizations who, in part, share many of the same goals of the Y. To date we have enjoyed partnerships with Hidden Harvest, Desert Healthcare District, Coachella Valley Housing Coalition, Hope through Housing and F.I.N.D. food bank. These are just a few of our friends we work with that have the same values and objectives similar to the Y. At the Y, child participation is considered foremost where we focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Jim Latting of Roemer Harnik law firm serves as President of the Board of Directors and Rob Ballew is the Executive Director. The Family YMCA of the Desert is part of the largest community service organization in the US where 2700 Ys work to provide programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Martha's Village & Kitchen

Martha's Village & Kitchen is one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County. Martha's began in 1990 when the founders served meals to their homeless neighbors. Today, from its campus in Indio, CA, Martha's Village offers unique life-changing programs based on the nationally-recognized "continuum of care model" breaking the cycle of homelessness. Through this gateway to hope, people regain their lives becoming responsible, self-sufficient and productive citizens, while passing on their newfound independence and life skills to their children and families.
