Established as a private non-profit by the federal government in 1964 to combat poverty in our geographical area. We seek to involve the entire community in assessing local needs and reducing poverty. A board of directors guides our staff. We focus available local, state, private and federal resources to assist low-income families. Our goal is to help individuals acquire useful skills and provide opportunities for people to become economically self-sufficient.

Our mission is to eliminate the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty in Blount, Cherokee, DeKalb, Jackson, Marshall and St. Clair Counties.
