Community Food Bank

The Community Food Bank invites community service organizations to help us move forward our goal of providing hunger relief through a three day supply of food in an emergency food box up to nine times a year to any and all Mesa County individuals and family experiencing crisis. The Community Food Bank is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving any Mesa County resident. Our services are implemented by volunteers and a volunteer board of directors. Currently, we need your assistance bulk packing product such as rice, oats, beans and dry milk into portions for distribution for our food boxes. Bulk packing can be completed with as little as one individual or up to 12 comfortably. The best time to volunteer is when the food bank is serving clients - between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. However, weekend and after service hours are welcomed and can be arranged as well. We anticipate serving more than 4,000 hungry Mesa County residents in November and December, as our weather gets colder. The Western Colorado Classic Auto Event will be held over the Labor Day Weekend—Saturday (8/31) and Sunday (9/1) from 9 am to 4 pm—at Canyon View Park (I-70 & 24 Road). All proceeds from the event will benefit Hilltop. A large number of volunteers are needed to staff the event. The Riverside Educational Center is a structured, after school tutoring program for low-income students in Mesa County. We are looking for individuals to volunteer two hours a week to help K-12th grade students succeed academically. No experience is necessary, just the desire to make a difference in a child’s life. All volunteers are trained on how to engage students in learning and Riverside staff are on-site to ensure the quality and effectiveness of programming. Volunteer Drivers Assistants help our drivers pick up donations from the community and deliver those donations to the ReStore. Volunteers in this position must be willing to donate at least a 4 hour work day with a staff driver on a regular basis. Responsibilities: • Assist Driver with pre-route inspection of the vehicle. • At the donation site guide the driver while backing into tight spaces to prevent damage to any donor property • Physically help the driver remove donations from the donor’s home or business and load the materials into the truck in an efficient and careful manner • Provide donors with a receipt and information about Habitat and the ReStore • Help to unload items upon return to the ReStore Qualifications: • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills • Ability to safely and comfortably lift items up to 50 lbs. • Strong spatial reasoning skills are need to efficiently load and unload the truck • Friendliness, Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a commitment the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County
