Who Are We?
Lisaard House is a 6-bed residential cancer hospice located in Cambridge. We have cared for more than 1200 people in Waterloo Region since opening in 2000. There is no charge for residents to stay at Lisaard House and care is provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is said that for every person dying, at least 5 others are affected, meaning that we have supported more than 6000 people through a loved ones end-of-life journey so far. Palliative care facilities can provided a much needed and desired alternative to institutional or home care and the need in our community is growing. Lisaard House is responding to the demand for more beds by building a second hospice in our region. Innisfree House is a 10-bed residential hospice that is being built on Homer Watson Blvd. in Kitchener with an anticipated opening date of spring 2015. With the opening of Innisfree House we will be able to care for approximately 250 more residents each year and touch the lives of approximately 1250 friends and family members annually. More than half of our operating expenses are covered by donations as the funding we receive from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care covers less than half of our annual expenses and the funding we do receive must be directed only towards the bedside nursing care that we provide. Lisaard House, and soon Innisfree House, strive to "make moments matter" for all of our residents and their families and we are proud of the impact we have had on the lives of so many in our community.
To provide quality palliative care in a home-like setting for adults dying of cancer, while supporting the individual and their family through the end of life journey. We believe people have a right to die with dignity, free from pain, surrounded by their loved ones in a setting of their choice.
